Mount Emei
As one of China’s Four Great Buddhist Mountains, Mount Emei is dedicated to Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. It is a precious mixed heritage of nature and culture, standing at an altitude of 3,099 meters. The mountain is famous for its magnificent peaks, sea of clouds, sacred Buddha light and ancient temples. It also houses three invaluable cultural relics: the Buddha’s tooth relic, the imperial seal of the Wanli reign and ancient palm-leaf scriptures.
Leshan Giant Buddha
Carved over 1,300 years ago in the Tang Dynasty, the Leshan Giant Buddha stands 71 meters tall and is the largest cliff-carved Maitreya Buddha on Earth. Sitting at the convergence of three major rivers, this grand masterpiece combines ancient craftsmanship and Buddhist culture. You can walk down the steep cliff plank road to get close to the Buddha and enjoy the spectacular river views.
Detailed 2-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Chengdu → Mount Emei
We gather in central Chengdu in the morning and head for Mount Emei by comfortable coach (about 2.5 hours’ drive). Upon arrival, take the scenic area shuttle bus to Leidongping, then walk to Jieyin Hall and ride the cable car up to the Golden Summit. Here you will admire the golden, silver and bronze halls, the giant Samantabhadra statue, sea of clouds and other amazing views. You may pray and seek blessings at this holy Buddhist site. In the evening, you can choose to watch the wonderful Holy Elephant of Emei cultural show (optional). We will stay overnight at a clean and comfortable local hotel in Mount Emei. Day 2: Leshan Giant Buddha → Chengdu
After breakfast, drive to Leshan. First, visit Qianfang Workshop Yi Cultural Museum to experience intangible cultural heritage arts including face-changing, shadow puppetry, Thangka painting and bamboo weaving. Enjoy authentic local lunch, then tour the Leshan Giant Buddha scenic area. Follow your guide to visit Lingyun Temple, Dongpo Tower and walk the ancient winding plank road. You may also choose to visit Oriental Buddha Park for more Buddhist art displays (optional). After the full-day sightseeing, we drive back to Chengdu to end the tour. Travel Tips: The mountain area has changeable weather; please prepare rain gear and non-slip shoes. The temperature varies greatly on the mountain top, so bring extra warm clothes and sunscreen. Please do not tease wild monkeys in the monkey zone for your safety. We suggest you do not book same-day flight or train tickets after the tour, as the return time may be delayed due to traffic.
